Restorative DentistryAt St. Louis Prosthodontics, our goal is to prevent dental problems before they occur. Unfortunately, this is not always possible due to poor oral hygiene, genetics, infrequent checkups, and other risk factors. This is why we also specialize in restorative dentistry. Our restorative services are designed to improve the function and aesthetics of your smile, as well as your overall oral health. Full Mouth ReconstructionSome patients have oral health problems throughout their mouths that require multiple treatments and procedures. If your smile needs a complete overhaul, you may qualify for a full mouth reconstruction, where the procedures you need are dictated by the number of missing or damaged teeth, and the severity of the issues. Complete DenturesA complete denture is used to replace all the teeth in either the upper or lower arch. Most complete dentures consist of prosthetic teeth set in a pink, flesh-colored acrylic base. Dentures designed for the upper arch usually cover the palate as well. Once you receive your complete denture, Dr. Shea will give you a detailed set of care instructions. There may be a brief adjustment period as you get used to life with your new appliance. Daily activities such as eating, speaking, and smiling may take some practice. Once your muscles adjust to your new teeth, these issues should dissipate. Partial DenturesA partial denture is an easy and cost-effective way to replace one or more missing teeth. We offer both partial and complete dentures. A partial denture is often similar to a traditional retainer, with an acrylic base that attaches to a prosthesis. A partial also utilizes metal clasps that wrap around the surrounding teeth, allowing your denture to remain securely in place. Some partial dentures come with precision attachments, which are much more aesthetically pleasing. Precision attachments are similar to dental crowns and eliminate the need for metal clasps. Dental CrownA dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that improves the structure and cosmetics of a damaged or decayed tooth. During the procedure, your tooth must be completely reshaped to accommodate the shape of the crown. Once the tooth is reshaped, we will permanently bond the crown to the enamel using a special adhesive. Many crowns are fabricated these days with porcelain, due to its unmatched aesthetics. Fixed BridgeA complete fixed bridge is used to replace an entire arch of missing teeth. Before your surgery, we may need to extract any remaining, problematic teeth. Most complete fixed bridges require a minimum of six to eight implants per arch.
